CROYDON & DISTRICT SOCIETY OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS
FORECAST LOOKS FINE SAYS WEATHERMAN
April showers could not dampen the enthusiasm of TV weatherman Ian McCaskill when he spoke at the annual dinner of the Croydon & District Society of Chartered Accountants (CDSCA) held at the Hilton National.
Though umbrellas were in evidence as guests arrived, he assured them of better weather soon to come. The weather forecaster with the sunny disposition dispelled any clouds with an after dinner speech in which anecdotes were packed tighter than isobars on a BBC weather map.
The event, hosted by CDSCA president David Chitty, a partner in Chantrey Vellacott DFK, attracted more than a hundred chartered accountants and business people from Croydon and the surrounding area. Almost £1,000 was raised during the evening for the Croydon Sports Partnership, which aims to increase sporting opportunities for children and young people.
The president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Graham Ward, who grew up in Croydon and still lives in the area, outlined the ICA’s new business manifesto for economic prosperity, which is being put to parliamentary candidates prior to the general election.
The Commissioner of the City of London Police, Perry Nove, focused on the manifesto’s call for a heightened campaign against fraud. He said the police service was ’four square’ behind the suggestion that there should be a national fraud loss study to provide annual statistics for submission to government and debate in Parliament.
